Bright Idea

In this long, narrow house, Kariouk Associates Architects used walls of glass to usher in light and designed sleek custom cabinets in bold yellow to help to capture and reflect the sunshine. Walnut paneling and accent cabinets offer a warm contrast to the splash of color, keeping the kitchen grounded within the open plan.

Light Effects in the Kitchen

Best from HGTV.com

Cant' Help to Love the Light Effects on this beautiful, contemporary kitchen.

In this open-plan kitchen, a combination of white lacquered upper units and wood style below creates a tailored, contemporary look. "Storage and functionality were both key to the design, so we optimized storage space by continuing cabinets along the bottom and into the adjacent dining room," says the designer. Design by DKOR Interiors.

Modern House in Moscow

I couldn't resist to take a look at this gorgeous design, a two story house in Moscow put together by Int2Architecture. The open plan living area comprising the kitchen, kitchen nook and family room shows a cool flow of neutral colors and an unexpected splash of turquoise in the kitchen cabinet. The warmth is set by the wood walls and floors in contrast with the shiny chrome accents of the lamps and accessories. The different accessories used throughout the house make the minimalist area feel fresh and fun. No doubt, the entire area has been decorated paying special attention to details. For more pictures and detailed information of this house visit Home-Designing.com

On Full Display

The living area opens beautifully into the outdoor area, which is a key design element of Eichler homes. Photos by Mariko Reed.

The relationship between indoors and outdoors is on full display. The architects aimed to create a smooth transition between the two areas by incorporating glass doors that don’t obstruct any views. Photo by Mariko Reed.

In an effort to create a more open floor plan, a portion of the wall between the kitchen, family area, and dining room was removed. Part of the dining room wall was also replaced with a huge window that not only makes a statement, but also gives the family a stunning view of the backyard area. Photo by Mariko Reed.
